Ha Noi, September 8, 2023 – The Department of Cultural Diplomacy and UNESCO Affairs, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam, holds a press conference to announce “Viet Nam Days Abroad 2023” program, which promotes the image of the country and people of Viet Nam in 3 continents.

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Viet Nam – South Africa diplomatic relations, the 50th anniversary of Viet Nam – France and Viet Nam – Japan diplomatic relations, “Viet Nam Days Abroad 2023” features a series of meaningful activities, contributing to the close friendship among countries and promoting the image of Viet Nam to international peers.

Along political agenda, “Viet Nam Days Abroad 2023” also kicks off various economic forums and seminars, showcases of art performances and cultural interactions. Among which, Viet Nam Cultural Space stands out with the theme of “Origin, Vitality and Posterity”.

Mr. Huu Anh Hoang, Deputy Director of the Cultural Diplomacy and UNESCO Affairs Department, spoke at the press conference: “As usual, Viet Nam Days Abroad consists of political, cultural and economic activities. This year, the Organizing committee has tailored the program according to each country. The program aims at delivering a rich in culture yet dynamic Viet Nam to friends in South Africa – where we can further promote cultural exchange – and in Japan, France – the two nations that are ‘somewhat’ familiar to Vietnamese people”

Mrs. Yen Nguyen, Director of Dong Do Performance and Event Services, shared about art performances within the framework of the event: “These performances tell a story line called ‘Colors of Viet Nam’, made by artworks stretching from the North to the South of Viet Nam. These ‘colors’ differentiate in each area, presented in the form of intangible heritages recognized by UNESCO. These performances can depict a calm atmosphere in the North and a hectic lifestyle in the South at the same time”

This year, Viet Nam Cultural Space gathers many artisans and young cultural practitioners, consisting of cultural interactive activities such as making lacquer or traditional Dong Ho paintings, creating To He – Vietnamese traditional toy, trying on Nguyen Dynasty costumes or exploring Vietnamese cuisine. The Cultural Space also displays exhibitions on diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and countries, UNESCO heritages, scenery and people in Viet Nam, which promotes the image of Viet Nam to international friends.

To kick off the series of events, “Viet Nam Days Abroad 2023” will take place in the South Africa’s capital, Pretoria city, on September 14 and 15, 2023. This event marks the first organization of “Viet Nam Days Abroad” in South Africa in particular and Africa in general. During the event, many activities will be implemented such as Vietnam Cultural Space, showcase of art performances celebrating the 30th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

After South Africa, France and Japan will be the next destinations of “Vietnamese Day Abroad 2023”. The events will be held in November and December this year, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and these two countries.

With many innovations, “Vietnam Day Abroad 2023” will create a distinct highlight on the traditional Vietnamese culture, which is still growing strongly with youthfulness and modernity.

“Viet Nam Days Abroad” is a national promotional event that the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to host annually since 2010. The events always receive the enthusiastic participation of Vietnamese localities, businesses, organizations, international community and overseas Vietnamese community.
